Tobacco Control – Jud has been involved in many important tobacco control initiatives. He has overseen efforts to expand the delivery of tobacco cessation services, convened high level congressional briefings related to an historic agreement between the federal government and the tobacco industry, and co-authored an influential article with the CEOs of the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association to strengthen NIH’s tobacco research efforts.
Obesity Prevention – Jud conceptualized and initiated a groundbreaking study to assess national policies aimed at reducing childhood obesity. He also organized a series of high-visibility congressional briefings following the publication of controversial studies on obesity-related mortality. The briefings helped members of Congress understand the scientific and policy issues related to obesity prevention.
HIV Prevention – Jud directed a study that helped state and local health departments navigate the difficult political and privacy issues related to HIV partner notification programs.
