Jud has a high level of experience and sophistication in achieving important policy goals. He understands what motivates policy makers, and he works to develop constructive partnerships with them to achieve as much as is politically feasible. For example:
Federal legislative advocacy - Jud has successfully advocated both with legislators and with regulators to enact and implement policies to give Medicare beneficiaries access to preventive services. He helped organize support for efforts to cover specific preventive services under Medicare, then to give the Department of Health and Human Services the administrative discretion to cover recommended preventive services, and then to cover recommended preventive services with no co-pays or deductibles.
Congressional caucus - As President of Partnership for Prevention, Jud worked with members of Congress to establish the bipartisan Congressional Prevention Caucus. The CPC has served as a host for many briefings on Capitol Hill and as a disseminator of information on numerous prevention topics, including tobacco control, obesity prevention, poison control activities, chronic disease prevention, and many other issues.
State legislative advocacy - Jud also has experience in organizing successful state legislative efforts. As CEO of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Jud convened legislative leaders from each state naturopathic medicine association each month via webinar to discuss legislative strategy. He also developed an online state legislative toolbox that includes nearly one hundred resources to support legislative efforts on a variety of issues affecting naturopathic physicians.
