The Beachway Group

The Beachway Group is a consulting firm founded by Jud Richland to help companies, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies achieve their health policy and human services goals. Jud’s work has had a tangible impact on the health and well-being of Americans. He has led high-impact policy initiatives that promote health and wellness, and he has initiated a wide range of cutting edge research and health improvement projects.

Jud’s experience includes three (!) stints as President and CEO of Partnership for Prevention, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to evidence-based disease prevention and health promotion. Jud initiated Partnership’s landmark effort to rank clinical preventive services based on the services’ health impact and cost-effectiveness. That effort has helped shape the delivery of preventive services across America. Jud also led Partnership’s Real Health Reform Starts with Prevention initiative, which served as the basis for many of the groundbreaking prevention provisions in the Affordable Care Act.

Jud served for seven years as the Executive Director of the American College of Preventive Medicine. Under Jud’s leadership, ACPM became the leading medical society focused on preventing obesity and tobacco use. During his eight years as Deputy Director and Acting Executive Director of the Public Health Foundation, Jud worked closely with public health departments around the nation to improve their delivery of public health services.

Previously, Jud worked for the U.S. General Accounting Office, an arm of the U.S. Congress. At GAO, he carried out evaluations of important federal programs, including a landmark study of the federal foster care program that led to national efforts to provide safe, nurturing, and permanent homes for at-risk children.

Jud received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, a master’s degree in public health from George Washington University, and a master’s degree in public affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas.
